Karen Sylvester

Karen has been a member of MCECU since 1979 when she and her family moved to Marinette. In 1994, she was asked to serve as a member of MCECU’s Credit Committee. The following year she was elected to the Board of Directors and in 1996 was elected Board Chairman and has acted in that capacity ever since.

In August 2002 Karen retired as Director of the Marinette County Property Listing Department. She's been a Supervisor for the Town of Peshtigo since the early 90's, is secretary for the Church Council and chairman of the Stewardship Committee at Zion Lutheran Marinette, as well as a member of the Mission Planning Group, Church Choir, and Property Committee. In 2002 she started volunteering for Unity Hospice and Palliative Care.

She feels that being on the Credit Union Board of Directors the past 15 years has been extremely educational. Karen has always enjoyed working with others to shape, strengthen, and develop a service oriented, financially strong and safe credit union.

Carl Mercier

Carl was elected to the Board on February 28, 2009 and has been a member of the credit union since 1971. Carl was a teacher for the Marinette School District for many years and is now in his second term as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Marinette. He is a member of the Marinette Elks, Moose and Lions clubs.

Carl feels it is mankind’s responsibility to give back to community. Long ago he was struck by the last sentence of the Jaycee creed: "Service to humanity gives meaning and purpose to human life."

Carl is married to Estelle and has four children, Christine Nicole of Green Bay, Darren of Chandler, AZ and Emily of Menominee, Mi.

Karen Everson

Karen has worked at Marinette County Health & Human Services for 32 years, with 25 years in the Public Health Department and 7 years in Human Services. Karen has been a credit union member since 1978 and a board member since 2001.

Karen and her husband Dan are “most proud” of their little grandchild, who is extremely cute and smart!

While Karen does not have a financial background, she feels she brings a “human” component of understanding what members want to the Board.

Joan Kelly

Joan has worked for the City of Marinette for 29 years as an Administrative Assistant in the Public Works Department.  She has served on the board of directors for 15 years, serving both as Secretary and Vice Chairman. Joan joined MCECU in 1981.

Joan and her son Luke are members of Zion Lutheran Church, where she has volunteered for many church and school activities.

Joan values her work on the board as she wants to see the Credit Union grow and improve on an already solid foundation of member services, including services such as financial counseling.

Sue Beres

2010 begins Sue's 22nd year of direct involvement with MCECU and our members. Sue worked on staff for 12 years and has served on the BOD since 2000.

Sue enjoys retirement with husband Augie. They have three children and seven wonderful grandchildren. Active in her church at Porterfield Lutheran, she has served on the church council and  has been treasurer for a number of years.

Sue feels watching our CU grow and continuing to improve member services in an ever challenging environment is very rewarding.

Mark Aubert

Mark is on his second 3 year term on the Credit Union board.  His dad was one of the founding members of the Credit Union and Mark became a member shortly after that.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and spent most of his life in management in the manufacturing field.  After 26 years, Mark retired from Giddings and Lewis Foundry as the Facilities Manager.

Mark and his wife own and operate Wind Rose North, ltd. Outfitters in Menominee.  They have three adult children who contribute to the business when they can.

Working on the board has been enlightening and it requires dedication to become a good board member.  Mark has enjoyed this challenge and working with other board members to improve our credit union.

Carol Burmeister

Carol and her husband Jim have been married for 30 years. They have three children and seven grandkids, all living in the Twin Cities area. She has worked at Lloyd Flanders for eighteen years, presently in the accounting department.

Carol has been an MCECU member since 1982. She initially served on the board from 2003 to 2007, and joined the board again in 2009.

Carol applies her life’s learning toward the development of programs that members may access and comfortably use for their financial needs.

Phyllis T. Lavarda

She is employed with Marinette County Health and Human Services. Phyllis is a social worker, assisting the elderly, physically disabled adults and children and their families. She is in her 17th year of employment here.

She has been a member of this credit union for fifteen years. As MCECU’s newest board member,  Phyllis would also like to learn more about the credit union operations and get a better understanding of how state and federal issues affect credit unions overall.

She will bring to the table an understanding of accounting principles. She    possesses organizational skills, gives attention to detail and is able to provide long-term dedication and commitment to this responsible filled volunteer position.
